Zari (or Jari as traditionally called) is basically a tinsel thread meant for weaving and embroidery. It is manufactured by winding or wrapping (covering) a flattened metallic strip made from pure gold, silver or slitted metallised polyester film, on a core yarn. Zardozi or Zar-douzi (Persian and Urdu: زَردوزی , Hindi: ज़रदोज़ी) work is a type of embroidery in Iran, India and Pakistan. Zardozi (Zar- Gold, Dozi- Work) is glittering, heavily encrusted embroidery done by couching wire pearls, beads, sequins and spangles onto expensive fabrics with a needle.
